A Night of Masks & Lots of Dancing~

I had the time of my life last Saturday night~
Went for Promtay 2009~
(for those of you who don't know what Promtay is check it out here)

It's sort of like a prom and a party combined...
Thus the name Promtay~
(prom+partay=Promtay)

This is like my first time attending a prom...
Felt rather nervous and excited at the same time! >.<
But I had fun!
LOADS of fun!!

Sadly I still had to work...
So I had no choice but to go a lil later...
Thus I missed out on a few things during the start of the event...
Ah wells...

Andy came and pick me up from Pavilion around 8.40pm...
And by the time we got to Heritage Mansion it was almost 9.30pm because of the jam...

Sadly the food was almost gone by the time I got there...
Good thing I ate a lil bit at Pavilion before going for Promtay...
But I did manage to get my free bottle of Tiger beer though~ =]
(Just to clarify I only drank one bottle k! I know how to control =P)

And did I mention that the theme was Masquerade??
So everyone was like in their masks...
But not throughout the whole time though...
Cos the area of the face that the masks covers tends to get sweaty after awhile...
Even I was taking my mask on and off...

Brought Nikki (my D90) along to take some pictures...
Had to use a flash to take the pictures though (the place was dark)...
Had to set it to full power also if not the pictures will be underexposed...
So I might've blinded one or two people~ XP
How I wished I had an external flash...

Now it's time for the pictures~
Enjoy!

Barnabas aka Barney~ =]

Lerry and Andy~

Me and Christine...
She was one of the organising committee members...
She is in charge of the creative department if I'm not mistaken...

She was also the one who nominated me for prom king~!
This is like my first time going to prom and I got nominated prom king~
How cool is that!
*woots*

See that red ribbon on my hand??
That's proof that I was nominated prom king~
*muaha* =]

People who were out on the dance floor~
You can't really tell that they are dancing from this picture...
But trust me...
They were dancing alright...

Even I took part in the action~
You are probably thinking this right now:
"What!?! The Julian who is so shy and timid and who sits in a corner and keeps to himself dancing on the dance floor!?!?! Cannot be!!"
I'll admit that I was a bit shy to dance at first...
But since this is my first prom...
Might as well make the best out of it and make it a memorable one eh??
Lerry can be my witness if you are still in doubt~ =]

They had a glass floor on the second floor of the mansion...
It was meant for people to dance on but there wasn't much people on the second floor...
So I guess you could say it was "under used"...

This is Shaun...
I've seen this guy from somewhere...
But I just can't recall!!
Even he told me I looked familiar to him! =.=

The official(?) photographer for the night...
I think he uses a D90 as well...

Me in my mask and formal attire~ =]

Michael Jackson the Second~ XD

Andy, Lerry, and me~

Makarios, me, and Lerry...

The in-house DJ...

The Emcee for the night I believe...

The power of Photoshop~!
Can turn an overexposed shot into a work or art~ =]
*muaha*

The best dressed (female category)...
Didn't manage to get a shot of the best dressed male...

Performance by a belly dancer...

Some of the organising committee members...

The prom king & queen...

Christine~

I thought this shot would go really well with a selective colors effect since she is the only person that I know in the picture...
Another reason why I decided to go the extra mile in editing this picture is because she came all the way down to Pavilion to pass me my prom ticket!
So nice of her~ =]

That's all the pictures I have...
More on my Facebook~

To sum up my night at Promtay '09:
- Dancing the night away
-Getting nominated for prom king
-Hanging out with friends
-Having the time of my life

The perfect & probably the most memorable prom ever~!!

This post is dedicated to Christine and all the other Promtay committee members who helped made this night a memorable one for me~!!

A big "Arigato Gozaimasu" goes out from me to the Promtay committee members~!! =]

Quick Update #25

Yes...
I know what you are thinking...
"Finally an update from this fella!!!"

Like I said before in my previous post...
Work is really tiring me out everyday...
I'm at Pavilion 7 days a week!!!
My work hours are from 3pm-10pm on weekdays (with the exception of Wednesday)...
On weekends and Wednesday it is from 11am-10pm...
And by the time my parents are come and pick me up it is almost 10.30-10.40pm (not being ungrateful or anything here... quite the opposite actually)...
By the time I reach back home it is 11pm+...
And by the time I wash up and everything it is almost 12am already...
And carrying 2 laptops and my camera back and forth from the LRT to the monorail and to Pavilion EVERYDAY is a real killer!!
Let's not forget the setting up of the counter...
Lots of heavy stuff to carry...
There is one freaking heavy printer, a huge monitor, the lenticular lenses, and the laminator (ok la... this one not so heavy la but still)!
And most of the time I'm setting up the counter and packing it up by myself...
Which is really REALLY tiring!
And sometimes when my parents need help in the office in the morning before work starts...
I have to go in!
Even more work there!!
After that it's off to Pavilion to work!!
You tell me tiring or not!!

*sigh*
Sorry...
I just needed to vent and get that off my shoulder...
Been dragging this issue around for far too long...

I've scheduled for a proper post to be posted at 7pm today...
So come back around that time...

Quick Update #24

Been about 2 weeks since I last updated...
*heh heh*

My past 2 weeks have been really busy...
Like seriously busy...

Parents got a big project during the last week of May (25th-31st)...
And we had to finish up that job by Saturday (May 30th)...
So I was practically at my parents office from morning 'til night for that whole week...
And when I come back at night...
I'm too tired to update...

Last week was church camp (May 31st-June 2nd)...
Got back on Tuesday (June 2nd)...
And slept immediately once I got home~
*hehe*

The next day (June 3rd) had to go back to parents office again...
Needed to rush another job...
Again came back quite late so no time to update...

Then on Thursday (June 4th) slept in 'til it was almost 12pm...
Richard later messaged me on MSN and asked me whether I want to go out for a photography outing at KLCC...
This was a spontaneous decision as we had actually planned to go on Friday from morning 'til night...
But since I have cell group on Friday nights and we wanted to get some night shots of KLCC we decided to go today...
We did, however, go again the next day~ (more on this later)

We arrived at KLCC around 4-5 something and stayed there 'til their parked closed (10 something)!
Their park actually has a closing time =.=ll

Then on Friday (June 5th) went out with Richard to KLCC again for another photography outing...
We wanted to go up to the Skybridge but by the time we got there the earliest tickets available were at 6pm and I had to be back home before that...
So we decided to go to the park to get some landscape shots...

Once we got outside there was this group of Malays (who were also photographers) asked whether we wanted to join them in their model photoshoot~
We were a bit hesitant at first...
But since this was a great opportunity to shoot some "real" models, get to know other photographers around Malaysia, learn some new things, and get some good exposure...
We decided to tag along...

It was a blessing in disguise...
If me and Richard had gone up the Skybridge we would've missed them...
They said they would call us if there is any event or photoshoot in the future~
So it was a good thing we didn't go up the Skybridge~

Another wonderful thing happened that day also...
I was supposed to meet Richard at the LRT station around 8.30am...
But the two of us overslept~ *hehehe*

Since we were running short of time...
Richard decided to take a taxi to the LRT station instead of using a bus...
Once he got into the taxi a conversation started~
It went something like this:

Taxi driver: "You photographer ah?"
Richard: "Ermm... Yeah..."
Taxi driver: "How much you charge for wedding photography ah?"
Richard: *shocked for 1-2 seconds* "Errr... Around RM500..."
Taxi driver: "Oh... Ok..." *gives Richard his name card*

Talk about being in the right place at the right time~
Richard also asked if I want to be assitant photographer~
Should the taxi driver hire Richard...
I would have the chance at wedding photography and get paid at the same time~
I'm praying that I'll get that chance~
It could really kick-start my photography career!
*woots*

Here is one out of over a thousand shots that I took on Friday~
Nikon D90 w/ AF-S Nikkor 18-105mm VR lens, 1/320 seconds @ f/22, ISO 320, EV +1.3

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That was just a short summary of my two weeks...
If I can find the time I'll do a more detailed update (not likely to happen XP)...
But I have 3 posts pending at my photoblog and I'm starting work at Pavilion this coming Wednesday...
And that won't leave me much time for myself...
Let's see how it goes la~

'Til then...
Ciaos~

A Night At The Dream Center...

Went for the Worship Central Asia Tour @ DUMC last night...

I had a great time of worship~
But I was having trouble concentrating during the message due to lack of sleep...
Good thing my mom took notes~
*hehehe*

Here are some pictures that I took...

A Day Out At Mid Valley...

Been a while since I last blogged about what I've been doing...
Had lots of stuff on my mind...
So that kinda killed my mood to update...

Anyway...
Here I am now posting up a proper update...

What have I been doing?
Nothing much actually...

Been making Bokeh filters for my D90...
I've made it into a slider this time...
More about it at my photoblog...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Went to Mid Valley yesterday after worship practice...
I went there alone...
Felt kinda weird...

I went there without any plan of any sort...
So after wandering around for quite a bit...
I decided to get a haircut...
My hair was getting kinda long anyway...
So yeah...
(Pictures of my haircut at the end of this post)

After I got my haircut...
Went to the Center Court of Mid Valley for some Panasonic event...
Radio DJs from Red FM were hosting the event for a short while...

Victor from the first season of Malaysian Idol sang a few songs...

I think Red FM was there for their "Shake Our Hand To Win 10 Grand With JD & Dilly!" thing... (those of you who listen to Red.fm will know what I'm talking about)
Managed to get a shot of the both of them...

This is Dilly (left) and JD (right)...

Shortly after...
The Panasonic mascot came out along with a female promoter...
*smiles*

There were other female promoters at various booths...

There wasn't much going on at the Panasonic event...
I started to get bored after some time...

Then I spotted some camera/DSLR promotion thing going on just outside MPH...
Went there out of curiosity...
Nothing much to look at though...
Just tested out some DSLRs...

Then I spotted something...
They were giving away a free LensPen if you can answer 3 questions in a row...
I decided to give it a try and guess what?
I won~! *woots*

The LensPen is used for cleaning camera lenses...
More about it on my photoblog...

Wandered around again after claiming my prize...
I seriously felt weird walking about alone...
Just didn't feel right...

But then I remebered that Karlyn, Rachel, and Samuel were coming to Mid Valley...
So I called them and meet up with them around 4 something...

Went to watch Star Trek with the three of them...
It was quite a good movie...
I enjoyed it eventhough I'm no Star Trek fan...

While I was walking to meet up with Karlyn and the rest...
There was this clothes shop that had real people posing as mannequins... I didn't notice that they were real people until one of them changed pose...

The girl on the right wasn't very good though...
You could see her swaying about and she kept holding just one pose while I was there...
The girl on the right was pretty good...
She stood perfectly still!
Hardly any movements...
Wonder what would happen if I scared them~
*heh heh*

That was pretty much how I spent my Saturday...
I'm very happy with the indoor shots of the promoters that I took~
Skin tones look natural...
Still needs a bit of work though...
But at least the shots turned out better than previous indoor shots...

Here are some shots of my new hairstyle to end this post~
I love my new hairstyle~ =]

The reason I took these shots because one of my friends said I should camwhore with my D90~
And I have nothing better to do...
So yeah~
*hehehehe*

My SAT results are coming out on this Thursday...
Don't know whether I should be happy or not...
